A. The Election Commission shall provide an official declaration of candidacy form to any person who wishes to run for elective office in a general election. The candidate must make the request for the official declaration of candidacy form in person or in writing by facsimile, mail, or electronic mail. The official declaration of candidacy form shall also be available on the Tribe’s website.

B. A candidate for elective office shall submit an official declaration of candidacy form to the Election Commission at least sixty (60) calendar days before the date of the general election. The official declaration of candidacy form needs to be submitted to the Election Commission or to the Tribal Office in care of the Election Commission by 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time on the deadline date. The official declaration of candidacy form may be submitted in person or via mail, facsimile or electronic mail. The Election Commission may permit any other method of delivery that it deems appropriate. The Election Commission shall specify the deadline for return of the official declaration of candidacy form on the form itself.

C. The Election Commission shall verify all official declaration of candidacy forms. An official declaration of candidacy form received after the deadline shall be rejected by the Election Commission, and no additional time for completion of the official declaration of candidacy form shall be granted. The sole responsibility to meet the above deadlines lies with the candidate.

D. The Election Commission Spokesperson shall review all official declaration of candidacy forms. An incomplete official declaration of candidacy form shall be rejected and returned immediately by certified mail, electronic mail or any other method that the Election Commission deems appropriate for the required information. In the event an incomplete official declaration of candidacy form is missing return information, the Election Commission shall use the candidate’s personal information on file with the Office of Enrollment on the date of the submission to return the incomplete form. Upon returning the rejected incomplete official declaration of candidacy form, the Election Commission Spokesperson will notify the candidate of the deadline date. It shall then be the responsibility of the candidate to return his or her official declaration of candidacy form before the official deadline.

E. A candidate may not run for more than one (1) elective office in any single general election. (Res. 2021-54; Res. 2020-14; Res. 2015-24; Res. 2014-41; Res. 2013-60; Res. 2013-57)
