The Department of Indian Child Welfare shall:

A. Promote family unity and well-being through protection of the Tribe’s children and families.

B. Create innovative programs for tribal families that are proactive in nature.

C. Receive and investigate referrals in regard to child protection issues.

D. Conduct and provide assistance with intakes and home studies for placement homes for child protection cases involving the Tribe’s children.

E. Facilitate prevention services for the Tribe’s families.

F. Provide protective services for Wilton children.

G. Provide for effective communication and dissemination of information to the Tribe’s members.

H. Collaborate with federal, state, and other tribal agencies.

I. Assist state and county child protection units in performing their responsibilities to Wilton children under the Indian Child Welfare Act, 25 U.S.C. §§ 1901 through 1963.

J. Maintain the strictest confidentiality of all matters addressed by the Department of Indian Child Welfare except to those individuals entitled to such information pursuant to this chapter.

K. Prepare monthly reports for all active child protection cases involving the Tribe’s children.

L. In conjunction with the Tribe’s legal representatives, initiate and participate in emergency and nonemergency child protection cases.

M. Prepare required reports for all emergency and nonemergency child protection cases.

N. Research and compile data and statistics regarding the Tribe’s children and families.

O. Identify and train appropriate tribal foster homes. (Res. 2013-9)
